TIPS FOR BUYING YOUR 1ST MAKEUP BRUSH SET

October 6, 2016

Good makeup brushes are the most important tools to have in your makeup kit.You don't need to spend alot of money to have a good set of brushes. In my freelance kit I have brushes on the low end from Target for about $3 each and I have brushes on the higher end like MAC and Sigma. Its important to know that you can find a good brush set for under $30 that will include every brush you need and has great quality.
When I started out freelancing in 2008, there weren't many brands of brushes that were affordable. I purchased brushes from Target, Coastal Scents and Sigma. Sigma cost a lot less back then, a full pro set of brushes were $69. Those were pretty much the only affordable brushes out there. Today you have brands like Morphe, BH Cosmetics, and EyesLipsFace that are great too.
My favorite inexpensive sets of brushes are from BH Cosmetics. I have 2 sets from them and I would say I use these more than any other brushes I have.

This 18 piece Studio Pro Brush set is a great deal for $32, and it comes with the brush belt.

I have this 10 piece Pop Art Brush Set and its amazing quality for $20.

E.L.F has some great affordable brushes in their studio line. This 11 piece kit is $30 or you can buy the brushes separately, which I highly recommend and they are only about $3-$6 a brush. They usually have a great cyber monday/ black friday sale too.
This 18 piece Vegan Brush Set from Morphe is definitely a go to for someone just getting into freelance makeup. The brushes are amazing quality and the set costs $49.99. Personally I don't care for the brush rolls and  I usually end up throwing them away.

The Sigma Essentials Kit- Make Me Classy is a great kit, but it's a little more pricey coming in at $179. This is pretty similar to the kit I have, however I purchased it a few years back for only $69. Sigma keeps getting better and better with their brushes which is probably why the cost keeps going up. I recommend this kit to makeup artists, and beauty junkies.
